Curated.Works: New Old Tales – Part 1

Today, allow me to present you yet another amazing new Draw A Dot. WITH series.

Aside from Taste of Fashion, I also have another interesting idea for this F/W 2014 season. Both Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen latest collections have the fairytale theme, but with a dark twist, and I want to combine them together to make an interesting story. For this particular project, I decided to ask Svetlana Makarova to come onboard for this joy ride.

The first piece features Snow White (in Alexander McQueen) and Red Riding Hood (in Dolce & Gabbana). According to Svetlana, the conversation between these 2 girls are something like this:

Red Riding Hood: Are you sure this is going to work?
Snow White: Oh, of course! I’ve tried it myself – you bite the apple, you fall asleep!

I like the concept of this illustration a lot and both fairytale characters look great in the outfits. The glowing apple actually adds a nice touch to the entire composition as your eyes will first focus on the fruit, and to the girls, then back to the wolf.

When I first looked at this image, I had 2 questions. So I deiced to ask Svetlana about them and share the answers with you here.

Why did you decide to combine Snow White and Red Riding Hood together in this piece?
I can’t say I was thinking a lot about this one – the idea just came up to my mind out of a sudden, when I was actually working on another sketch from the series, so I sketched it immediately, and decided to begin the series with it.
But these two ladies definitely have one thing in common – something weird is happening in the wood… 🙂

Why did you dress Snow White in this black Alexander McQueen outfit? Is she the evil one?
I just felt it would look well together with the Red Riding Hood‘s outfit. And I personally do not think she’s an evil one, she’s just a reckless naughty girl, who loves long black dresses. 😉

Stay tuned for the second piece of this series. Which fairytale characters do you want to see?
