For this piece, Benda is riding a bike and he is his passenger is dressed in one of the Guo Pei gowns (you may remember the coat as Rihanna wore it at the MET gala). The composition is very nice and I love the dreamy vibe of it. The Chinese style clouds add a retro edge to the illustration. I personally like this piece a lot!
Back in late 2014, I met with Ben Liu when he was in Toronto (well you probably know why if you are a fan of this site), and he said he needed to do a sketch of me. Well below is the portrait and let me tell you, I was in awe when I first saw it!
Ben Liu was nominated by Mahyar Kalantari in the last “episode” of #TakeoverDrawADot on instagram. Ben accepted the challenge and on October 19th, he and his son BENDA took over the Draw A Dot. account and answered 5 questions with illustrations.
If you have seen my personal Instagram account, you should know that this year I have teamed up with BENDA (Ben Liu) to create the Holiday Card. The card has already printed out, but we will not release the illustration online until mid December. However, if you want to be one of the first to own the physical card (and to know which brand inspired this card), here is your chance!
Last week I showed you the 1st piece of the Orange Dot Project and I hope you enjoyed the piece created by Helen Huang. Today, it’s time to show you the 2nd piece and it is done by one of my favourite illustrators last year – Ben Liu.
As you may remember from the last part, there are 2 rules for this project: the orange dot and one of Zedd‘s music called Stache. When I first looked at this illustration, I immediately thought of the song, as the bubble somehow reminded me of the beats. The girl looks very beautiful here and she reminds me of one of my friends in real life. Now, let’s read what Ben has to say about this piece and to Draw A Dot.!
