First of all, I want to thank you for your support, and I am always so grateful to see the expansion of Draw A Dot. In the past, I have created a lot of successful public open calls and while talking to some members on Patreon, they have suggested me to create an open call just for the members. I have thought about it for some time and now I am excited to announce this special monthly open call!
This open call is a bit different than the public ones you have entered before. Here is a list of things that makes this event more special and cool!
- Unlike the regular open calls where we only focus on womenswear, the topics of this open call will focus on other areas in the fashion illustrations world. The topics can be jewelry, menswear, makeup looks, kidswear, shoes, or even potential new brands etc. This will give you a chance to try new things, and possibly open a new path for you.
- For this open call, the mentors from our Patreon group will be selecting their favourites. The favourites will be shown on Draw A Dot Instagram feed (one post – carousel style).
- At the end of each open call (end of the month), we will have a Zoom session where we will discuss each entry as a group. This will give you the chance to get feedback and know what you can improve with your works. If you cannot join the Zoom session, I will upload the video on YouTube so you can watch it (it will be an unlisted video).
- I will upload all the entries to Patreon beforehand so you all can see the submissions.
I hope this new open call will help you to build a more dynamic portfolio and perhaps a new niche for yourself.
And here comes this month’s topic…
Mock Up Project – Alaïa S/S 2023 Campaign Image
What you need to do
I will be teaming up with Johna Shi and Steven Broadway for this open call. This time, we are going to give you a mock-up project challenge to help you with your portfolio building. A mock-up project is very important in your portfolio because it shows if you have put any thoughts on creating your illustrations for brands.
The topic is Alaïa S/S 2023 and your task is to create an illustration that serves as the campaign image for this collection. This collection has the 80s & Dune vibe so you must take these 2 ideas into consideration. We need the following things from you when submitting to this open call:
- The artwork
- a pdf file with no more than 2 pages. In this pdf file, you need to show your mood board, the reason you pick those outfits, the concept, and the audience you are targeting. We will be using this pdf file as a reference to your illustration.
We will have a Zoom Session on August 7th at 1pm EST where Steven, Johna, and I will teach you about the importance of having this kinda of mock-up proposal, and you can ask us questions regarding this open call.
Deadline and Publication Date:
The deadline is August 21st, 2022 11:59pm EST. Late submissions will not be accepted.
We will have a Zoom Session on August 28th, 2022 at 1pm EST to review all the entires, plus we will announce the winner during the session.
Note:
– If you are in the $10/month tier, you are more than welcome to show us your WIP in the chatroom. We may be able to give you some feedback. Because this is not a public open call, I will not be reposting any IG story as I do not want to confuse people who are working on the public open call.
– By entering this open call, you agree to let Draw A Dot. to post your submission on their social media platforms.
