In order to try out the tablet, Cassie has used it to create the above illustration. She has also created a timelapse video to show you the process of creating the character.

“The first thing I noticed about this pen tablet was the vibrant colour options available, and personally apple green is my favourite. I got the size L pen tablet, having held it in my hands now I can say that it is light and portable. So, the next best thing to do is, of course, to use it, which I did! I created an illustration using Photoshop using this tablet, and here are my opinions.

Other than the fact that my photoshop skills are a little rusty, the tablet was very easy to set up. The tablet is connected via a USB-C cable (included in the box). Once it is connected, all you need to do is download the driver to start using it. The pen XP-PEN’s P01 model and requires no battery. It also comes with 10 extra nibs (nib extractor provided), which is more than enough to be honest. Unless you are the type of person that finishes 10 pencils every time you draw. It has 2 buttons on the pen, by default it activates the Pen/Eraser and Right Click functions. However, you can adjust pen settings, as well as tablet settings through the driver software that is easy to navigate.

The dimensions of the L sized tablet is 315 x 222.9 x 12.5 mm and has an active area of 10” x 6.27”. But note that only the S and L sized tablet supports tilt sensitivity, the XS does not.

This is my first time using a XP-PEN product, and I have to say I am quite impressed! The L size was nice to sketch with, and there weren’t any hiccups or mishaps. The pen felt very ergonomic (big word for comfortable basically), gliding across the tablet surface smoothly and the pressure and tilt sensitivity worked completely fine. I definitely recommend it, especially for newbies trying out digital illustration or just people who don’t want to invest an arm and a leg. It is on par with more well-known tablet brands, and one might argue the prices here might be a slightly better bargain!”
